Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma joined National People’s Party (NPP) leaders from Garo Hills at the District Auditorium to formally felicitate newly elected Rajya Sabha MP James Sangma. Congratulating the new Parliamentarian, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma commended James for consistently serving as a strong voice for Meghalaya and an advocate for the broader Northeast, expressing firm confidence in his ability to raise the people’s core aspirations and drive regional development in Parliament. Expressing his gratitude to the NPP leadership and supporters present at the gathering, James Sangma noted that the felicitation carried special significance as it coincided with the honouring of Conrad Sangma, the Chief Executive Member (CEM), Deputy CEM, and members of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) for the landmark passage of the Separate Electoral Roll Bill. James highlighted that this legislation stands as the culmination of years of persistent public demand, successfully protecting the foundational purpose of Autonomous District Councils under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution while safeguarding the tribal communities’ rights, customs, and self-governance.
