The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement on cautioning Indian nationals against traveling to the Rakhine state. Additionally, the MEA advised Indian citizens currently residing in Rakhine to promptly vacate the area.
The MEA has issued a warning to Indian citizens, citing the unstable security conditions, telecommunications breakdowns, and shortages of essential goods, and to those already in Rakhine, urging them to leave immediately. India has expressed concerns about the worsening situation in Myanmar and called for a swift resolution to the conflict. The MEA’s weekly press briefing highlighted the need for an end to violence and Myanmar’s progress towards an “inclusive federal democracy.”
Myanmar has experienced a surge in violence, with three ethnic minority factions launching a coordinated offensive against the military regime in October 2021, seizing control of several towns and military installations. This has led to a significant influx of individuals from Myanmar into Mizoram along the Indo-Myanmar border, marking three years since the military orchestrated a coup in February 2021.
