Assam Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushik Rai om Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting on Mission Flood-Free Guwahati at the Conference Hall of the Office of the District Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan, to review the progress of measures undertaken so far to address urban flooding and waterlogging in Guwahati.
Representatives of all concerned departments and agencies, including Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), PWD (Roads), Water Resources Department, Guwahati Jal Board, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), OIL, NF Railway and Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration, participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the various initiatives and interventions required in identified areas for effective flood and waterlogging mitigation. Specific areas and responsibilities were assigned to the concerned departments and agencies to ensure coordinated, time-bound and result-oriented action.
MLA, Dispur LAC, Pradyut Bordoloi; MLA, New Guwahati LAC, Dipluranjan Sarmah; Mayor, GMC, Mrigen Sarania, along with senior officials of the respective departments and agencies, were present at the meeting.
Emphasising the importance of a coordinated approach, Minister Rai called upon all concerned departments and agencies to work in close coordination and ensure effective implementation and regular monitoring of the measures being undertaken.
The minister directed the District Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan, to convene another meeting with all concerned departments and agencies after 10 days to review the reports to be prepared by them on the measures undertaken and proposed for flood mitigation in their respective areas.
He further directed that the reports submitted by various departments and agencies be consolidated into a comprehensive report on flood mitigation measures for Guwahati.
Rai reiterated that sustained coordination, proper planning, timely execution and continuous monitoring by all stakeholders are essential to achieve the objective of Mission Flood-Free Guwahati and provide lasting relief from urban flooding and waterlogging to the people of Guwahati.
