The Mizoram State Level Police Conference, chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, was held to review outcomes from the recent National Level DGP/IGP Conference, where 107 recommendations were made for modernizing Indian policing. The Chief Minister noted several recommendations are being implemented in Mizoram and discussed the necessity of Central Government support for further actions. He commended the Mizoram Police for reducing drug abuse and noted successful measures against arecanut trafficking, resulting in record local prices, while announcing new funding of Rs. 3.18 crore for police modernization. Moreover, he highlighted the establishment of a Directorate of Prosecution under the BNSS Act, 2023, and emphasized prioritizing the National Conference recommendations based on financial capacity. Home Minister K. Sapdanga reiterated that policing should focus on public safety and managing contemporary challenges beyond mere punishment. DGP Sharad Agarwal presented details on the recommendations, aligning with the Vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, stressing the importance of technology in policing, disaster management, and women’s safety. The conference included participation from various senior officials and district Superintendents of Police via online platforms.
