Mizoram Conducts Earthquake Preparedness Mock Drill in Lunglei

A mock exercise on earthquake preparedness was carried out in Lunglei by the Lunglei District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Thursday. This exercise aimed to enhance disaster preparedness and improve coordinated responses in the event of an earthquake. The drill incorporated a simulated earthquake scenario affecting the Venglai area, which included significant infrastructure like the flyover and adjacent buildings.

The exercise commenced with a fake earthquake alert being issued from the District Emergency Operation Centre, followed by the activation of a disaster siren. Key elements of disaster management were put into practice, including rescue operations, evacuation procedures, fire control measures, traffic management strategies, and medical response actions. To facilitate these operations, the Treasury Office was designated as the Staging Area, while a Relief Camp was established at the PWD Office Complex. Treatment for the injured was managed by Civil Hospital Lunglei.

Officials from multiple agencies participated in the exercise, teaming up with NDRF, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Police, Fire & Emergency Services, Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, Youth Mission Association (YMA) volunteers, and Aapda Mitra participants. DDMA Chief Executive Officer Rochuangkimi Khenglawt expressed gratitude to all involved — including departmental officials, response forces, volunteers, and the local community — for their collaborative efforts that contributed to the successful execution of the mock exercise.
