Mizoram faces hardship as ASF kills 9,000 pigs

Mizoram’s sole Lok Sabha MP, Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, has called for urgent assistance to pig farmers in the state, who have been severely affected by the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF). Speaking during the 18th Lok Sabha Budget Session, Richard highlighted the devastating impact of the disease on the livelihoods of thousands of farmers.

The MP pointed out that over 9,000 pigs have died due to ASF, causing significant economic hardship across Mizoram. Richard expressed concern that despite the severity of the situation, the Mizoram government has yet to receive any financial assistance from the Central Government.

In his appeal, Richard urged the Union Minister for Animal Husbandry to expedite the disbursement of a proposed relief package of ₹26.725 crores to support the affected pig farmers and help them recover from their losses.
