Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati of Mizoram felicitated 35 members of the Assam Rifles for their service in the line of duty. At the esteemed Investiture Ceremony, the Governor’s Gold and Silver Medals were given to the recipients. Under the direction of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), the Assam Rifles held the investiture ceremony on December 13 at Raj Bhavan’s Circular Lawn. 35 Assam Rifles troops received Governor’s Gold and Silver medals from the governor, including 15 Gold and 20 Silver awards for 2024.
Speaking to the crowd, Governor Kambhampati expressed gratitude for the way the event was run and pointed out that the Assam Rifles are among the oldest paramilitary units in India. They are well-known for their service and are referred to as the “Friends of the Hill People” because of the work they do to ensure the safety and well-being of the local population. The 23 Sector Assam Rifles were also praised by Governor Kambhampati for their noteworthy efforts in the fight against the drug problem. He commended them for successfully seizing drugs and contraband valued at several crores.
The Governor also praised their recent successes in capturing insurgents and retrieving shipments of weapons. He also praised the Assam Rifles’ outstanding work in advancing public welfare and development via their Civil Action Projects. He also urged the award winners to keep up their devoted service with unwavering dedication and to use their successes as motivation to serve the country even more.
