Mizoram Introduces Improved Universal Healthcare Initiative to Expand Medical Access

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma launched the upgraded Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS 2.0) with a 24/7 call centre, effective April 1. This version includes stricter emergency protocols and increased funding, reflecting the government’s commitment despite significant expenditures. A budget of Rs 130 crore has been set for 2026-27, alongside Rs 26.42 crore from government employees, and over Rs 800 crore secured from the Asian Development Bank for sustainability. The CM emphasized the importance of public registration before April 15, as the scheme offers up to Rs 5 lakh for cashless treatment at both government and selected private hospitals.
