Mizoram issues advisory for precautionary measures amid cold waves

Amidst a cold wave gripping the state, Mizoram has issued a public advisory in regard to precautions to be taken with minimum temperatures in several districts dipping considerably to between 4 and 8 degrees Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department, Meteorological Centre in Aizawl, the cold wave has been prevailing across all districts of the state since January 4, 2026, with a noticeable drop in night temperatures. The Met department has stated that the cold conditions are likely to persist for the next few days. In view of the situation, the Department of Disaster Management and Rehabilitation has directed all district Deputy Commissioners to take necessary precautionary measures to minimize hardships faced by the public.


The advisory urges people to wear adequate warm clothing and avoid prolonged exposure to cold weather. Those experiencing cold-related health problems have been advised to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest Public Health Centre or hospital. Motorists have been cautioned to drive carefully as dense fog is likely during morning and evening hours, reducing visibility on roads. Livestock owners have also been advised to take necessary measures to protect animals from the adverse impact of the cold weather. Authorities have appealed to the people to remain vigilant and adhere to the advisories issued by the concerned departments during the ongoing cold wave.
