The Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) elections saw a very high voter turnout on Wednesday, with 83.99 per cent of more than 47,000 voters casting their ballots. A senior election official said the polling went on smoothly and remained peaceful throughout the day. Mizoram State Election Commissioner H. Lalthlangliana informed that voting began at 7 am and continued till 4 pm in all 111 polling stations. A rodent outbreak destroys 42% of crops, affecting thousands of farmers

A severe rodent infestation has destroyed nearly 42 per cent of Mizoram’s agricultural output this year, affecting more than 5,000 farmers across all 11 districts, according to the state Agriculture Department. The outbreak was triggered by the flowering of Bambusa tulda, locally known as Thingtam, a phenomenon that occurs once every 48 years and causes rodent populations to surge rapidly. Concerns about the “risky” railway alignment and Gorkhali OBC relocation are growing in Mizoram

A Mizoram court sentenced a 67-year-old man to ten years in prison for molesting a little girl.

A fast-track court in Mizoram’s Kolasib district on Thursday sentenced a 67-year-old man to 10 years of imprisonment for molesting a minor girl six years ago, officials said. The order was pronounced judge R. Vanlalena, sentencing Vanlalruata to 10 years of jail term for sexually abusing the 8-year-old girl. A fine of Rs 7,000 was also imposed on the man.
