The Mizoram government has announced a ban on firecrackers and sky lanterns during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities to control pollution and ensure a peaceful celebration. Home Minister K. Sapdanga shared this decision at an event organized by the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), emphasizing the state’s commitment to a clean and serene holiday season.
Sapdanga stated that strict measures would be taken against individuals caught transporting or using fireworks. To support this, police units across the state will be alerted, and night patrols will be conducted in towns and villages to maintain order and safety during the celebrations.
In addition, the government plans to collaborate with civil society organizations to uphold the festive atmosphere. Similar bans have been implemented in previous years to honor the sanctity of Christmas and New Year while preventing pollution.
