The Mizoram government will introduce the Mizoram Private Placement Agencies (Regulation) Bill, 2025, during the budget session of the state assembly starting February 19. The legislation aims to facilitate legal employment opportunities for Mizo youth both within India and abroad. The proposed bill will enable private placement agencies to recruit and send job seekers, especially domestic workers, to other states and foreign countries through legal channels. It will also establish a licensing system under the state government to ensure agencies comply with safety and legal regulations.
This initiative is a response to challenges faced by Mizo domestic workers abroad, particularly in Syria, the UAE, and other Gulf nations, where several workers encountered legal difficulties last year, prompting rescue efforts by the state and central governments. The new bill expands the scope of the 2015 regulation, which only allowed agencies to arrange domestic employment for women within India.
The budget session will also see Governor Vijay Kumar Singh’s maiden address and Chief Minister Lalduhoma’s presentation of the 2025-26 state budget on March 4. Ministers are set to answer 740 starred and 88 unstarred questions during the session, which concludes on March 20.
