Mizoram’s Major Laldingngheta honored with Sena Medal for bravery in Kashmir

Major Laldingngheta from Aizawl has been awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his extraordinary valor during a counter-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter, which took place on October 21, 2023, is a testament to his remarkable bravery and dedication to national security. Major Laldingngheta, hailing from Bungkawn Vengthar in Aizawl and the son of Vanlalhriata, led his Combat Action Team in a critical mission following intelligence on four terrorists attempting to infiltrate the Indian border across the Line of Control (LoC). His team set up a meticulously planned ambush to intercept the intruders.

As the terrorists approached, Major Laldingngheta and his team engaged them in a fierce gunfight. During the initial exchange, one terrorist was neutralized by the team. However, the situation escalated when a grenade exploded, causing severe injuries to Major Laldingngheta, including damage to his right eye, chest, and right arm.

Despite the intense pain and additional injuries, Major Laldingngheta displayed unwavering resolve, continuing to lead his team. He pursued the remaining terrorists as they attempted to retreat towards the LoC. In a remarkable act of courage, he managed to catch and neutralize one more terrorist, bringing the total number of terrorists neutralized in the operation to two.
