MLA Kaso urges youth to reject alcohol and drugs at church jubilee

On November 19, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso highlighted the significance of preserving traditional values while embracing religious practices during his speech at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Ganga Baptist Church. Reflecting on the impact of Christianity on the Nyishi community, Kaso acknowledged the church’s transformative role in addressing social issues such as alcoholism and conflicts.

Speaking to India Today NE, Kaso praised the church’s contribution to fostering peace and unity, emphasizing how Christianity had helped reduce societal problems and promote coexistence among tribes. “Our ancestors, especially from the Nyishi tribe, once engaged in conflicts and substance abuse. Today, we embrace peace, brotherhood, and coexistence with all tribes and communities,” Kaso said. While celebrating the role of Christianity, Kaso also emphasized the importance of showcasing traditional values. He noted that cultural attire and practices continue to play a vital role in programs like those of the Nyishi Baptist Church, reinforcing the need to balance religious faith with cultural identity.

On local infrastructure, Kaso addressed concerns regarding the Naharlagun Highway project. He announced that the retendering process for Package B of the highway would proceed due to delays by the previous contractor. The MLA reassured residents that Chief Minister Pema Khandu is committed to ensuring the timely completion of the project. Kaso also urged the youth to avoid drugs and alcohol, drive safely, and uphold their families’ values. He condemned the recent tragic incident in Seppa, where a man reportedly killed his family members, calling for strict legal action against the perpetrator.
