Mohali-type ‘rocket attack’ at police station in Punjab’s district

An RPG attack on the Saanjh Kendra situated next to the Sarhali police station in Tarn Taran rocked this border district of Punjab at around 11.30pm on Saturday. According to reports no fatalities was found, around 10 persons, including Sarhali police station SHO Sub-Inspector Parkash Singh, were seen at the site during the attack.

The windowpanes of the police station and the Saanjh Kendra were vandalised, besides its main entrance. Senior police officers had reached the spot for inspection. They were tight-lipped over the incident. Forensic authorities have also reached the spot.

According to police reports, the attack was executed from across the NH 54. The police authorities did not rule out the chances of a terror attack. The sources said that the main target was Sarhali police station. However, after striking the grills of the gate it redirected towards the Saanjh Kendra.

Tarn Taran SSP Gurmeet Chohan who took over the charge 2 days ago said inspection are under process.
