Most of the IITs boycott Times Higher Education ranking

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has ranked the highest position within all Indian institutes in the latest round of Times Higher Education (THE) rankings. Most Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) boycotted the decision for the third consecutive year over transparency concerns.

Second place is taken by Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences (351-400 overall), which made its debut in the ranking. In the university category, The Himachal Pradesh-based private university is ranked 96th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2022.

Last year, the second position in the Indian category went to IIT Roper, which is ranked sixth in this year’s edition and has slipped to the global 501-600 band from last year’s 351-400. Among the other IITs that participated in the ranking, IIT Indore is in the 601-800 band, followed by IIT Patna and IIT Gandhinagar in the 801-1000 band. It was not immediately clear in the ranking process how many IITs participated. The full list will be released on Wednesday.
