Motorola breaks into India’s top five smartphone brands on premium and AI push

Global smartphone maker Motorola has entered the top five smartphone brands in India in the first quarter of 2026, driven by premium portfolio expansion, AI-led innovation and strategic partnerships, according to the latest IDC Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. The company climbed from the ninth position in Q1 2024 to the fifth spot in Q1 2026, marking one of the fastest growth trajectories in the Indian smartphone market over the past two years. Motorola’s market share also rose sharply from 4.6 per cent in Q1 2024 to 8.9 per cent in Q1 2026, compared to 7.5 per cent in Q1 2025.

The growth was supported by the company’s expanding portfolio across the moto g, motorola edge, razr and the newly launched motorola signature series. Motorola said its focus on premium design, AI-powered imaging, immersive display technology and advanced camera systems helped strengthen its market position. The company also highlighted its premium partnerships with brands and platforms including Pantone, Swarovski, Bose and the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Motorola India Managing Director TM Narasimhan said the company’s growth reflected strong consumer trust in its innovation and premium experiences. He added that partnerships with brands such as Pantone, Bose and Sony, along with AI-led innovations, were helping strengthen Motorola’s aspirational positioning in India. The company said its AI ecosystem has been enhanced through collaborations with Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity AI, aimed at delivering more personalised and productivity-focused experiences for consumers.
