In the wake of severe landslides across Darjeeling district, Member of Parliament (RS) Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla conducted a four-day visit from October 6 to 9 to assess damage and coordinate relief operations. Covering critical areas including Dudhiya, Mirik, Thurbo, Poobong, Pokhriabong, and Tabakoshi, Shri Shringla, also President of the Darjeeling Welfare Society, oversaw the distribution of essential supplies such as tarpaulins, food, blankets, utensils, and spades, while providing financial support to affected families.
During the Dudhiya visit, Shri Shringla accompanied Governor Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose, and later traversed hilly terrains with BJP leaders, Darjeeling Welfare Society members, and Red Cross officials to reach remote communities. Recommendations included financial relief from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, housing rehabilitation under PMAY (Gramin), restoration of connectivity through a temporary Bailey Bridge over the Balasun River, continued supply distribution, and medical support for injured victims.
The landslides have disrupted local commerce, with tea, vegetable, and essential goods supply chains severely affected. Shri Shringla emphasized coordinated relief and rehabilitation to restore trade routes, ensuring vendors and small businesses regain access to markets swiftly, mitigating long-term economic losses in the region. Shri Shringla also met Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and MP Raju Bista to discuss central-state coordination for ongoing relief, reiterating his commitment to the rehabilitation of families and communities devastated by the disaster.
