Mr India cinematographer Peter Pereira passes away at 93, Abhishek Bachchan extends condolences

Veteran cinematographer and special effects artist Peter Pereira has passed away. Actor Abhishek Bachchan took to Twitter to update the news of the cinematographer’s death. Peter died at the age of 93 and was blind since 20 years. He is best known for films such as Aa Gale Lag Jaa (1973), Border (1997), Ajooba (1991), Sheshnaag (190), and Mr India (1987).

Sharing the news of Peter’s death, Abhishek Bachchan wrote in a tweet, “Our industry lost a legend today. #PeterPereira was a pioneer in Cinematography in our films. One of the greatest!” Recalling the memories of Peter, he also added, “I remember him fondly from the sets of my father’s films that I visited as a child. Kind, loving, dignified and brilliant. Rest in Peace, sir.”

Peter was last time seen in filmproducer Hemant Chaturvedi’s documentary, Chhayaankan. The movie included 14 cinematographers who worked in Hindi movies between the 1950s and the 2000s. It included Sunil Sharma, RM Rao, Govind Nihalani, AK Bir, Baba Azmi, Ishwar Bidri, SM Anwar, Kamalakar Rao, Pravin Bhatt , Dilip Dutta, Barun Mukherjee, Nadeem Khan, Jehangir Chowdhury and Peter Pereira.
