NASA intern mocked for having Goddess Laxmi, Saraswati idols near laptop; Netizens call out ‘Hinduphobia’

Space agency NASA recently shared a collage of their interns on Twitter and the photo has rekindled the debate on science vs religion.

NASA had posted a reminder that the last day for fall applications for its internships was on July 10.

The debate between science and religion is as old as time and there has never been a conclusion to the debate. NASA’s internships are arranged in three sessions during the calendar year, which includes spring, fall and summer. The American space agency is known for giving opportunities to future scientists, engineers and other professionals.

Among the photos shared by NASA was the image of an Indian-American girl, who can be seen with the idols of Goddess Laxmi and Saraswati surrounding her laptop, at her work station.

Reactions started pouring in as soon as the image made its way to the micro blogging site.

Some netizens expressed shock and disbelief that a scientist in the making would believe in religion.

But many users came out in support of the intern questioning, why should there be a problem if a ‘Hindu woman is being her Hindu self’.
