NASA Unveils Mars Mission Timeline With Human Crew by 2040

NASA has officially announced its roadmap to land humans on Mars by 2040. In a press briefing, Administrator Bill Nelson confirmed that crew selection and training for extended deep-space missions will begin in 2027.

The Mars Transit Habitat prototype is already in construction, and astronauts will soon undergo multi-year isolation trials in Houston. The mission will be built upon lessons from Artemis lunar flights.

India’s ISRO and space agencies in Europe and Japan have been invited to collaborate. With increasing STEM talent in South Asia—including Bangladesh and Nepal—education authorities are hopeful the mission will inspire the next generation of scientists globally.
