Nepal’s Ministry of Education has rolled out its first batch of satellite-connected digital classrooms in the remote Himalayan districts of Dolpa, Humla, and Mugu, areas traditionally cut off from the national education grid.
The initiative, developed in partnership with a European telecom consortium, brings solar-powered smart boards, tablets, and e-libraries to over 2,000 students. Lessons are delivered both live and on-demand.
The model has been praised by education NGOs across India, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. There are now discussions about expanding similar setups to the Sundarbans delta, Meghalaya, and southern Bhutan, where infrastructure remains a challenge.
