Navi Mumbai Bengali Association (NMBA) Vashi is set to celebrate its 45th Durga Puja from October 9-13, 2024, embracing the theme of “PEACE” while showcasing innovative approaches to tradition and sustainability. Recognized as the largest Durga Puja celebration in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), this year’s event promises to be a blend of cultural richness and eco-conscious practices. Ashim Dey, a member of NMBA, emphasizes the significance of this year’s theme in fostering unity and harmony within the community.
The stunning decorations, crafted entirely from full white Sola wood, create a visually striking pandal that symbolizes peace and harmony. This innovative choice of materials not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also promotes environmental sustainability.
Central to the celebration will be an impressive 18-foot idol of Goddess Durga, meticulously designed by skilled artisans from West Bengal using biodegradable soil sourced from the holy Ganges. This commitment to using sustainable materials highlights NMBA Vashi’s dedication to preserving cultural heritage while addressing environmental concerns. The festivities will take place at the CIDCO Exhibition Centre in Vashi, spanning an expansive 1.50 lakh square feet and expected to attract over 800,000 devotees. NMBA Vashi’s Durga Puja 2024 stands as a testament to the harmonious integration of tradition, innovation, and sustainability in a rapidly changing world.
