Noida’s Twin tower collapsed in seconds

On Sunday the illegally built Supertech twin towers in Noida were Pulled down. The closest residential complex was just nine meters away and the residents had complained that the illegal towers blocked their view. It took only 9 seconds to deploy the whole building. The illegally built Supertech twin towers, a series of controlled explosions reduced the 100-meter tall structures to a mountain of rubble –witnessed by thousands of nearby audiences from surrounding rooftops, and lakhs of people view the live telecast on television. The authority has listed the 100 in the neighborhood to see for illegal construction. Most of these buildings were approved between 2009 and 2014 at the same time as the Twin Towers.

The Supreme Court ordered the demolition a year ago, saying there was “collusion” between the builder and Noida authority officials who allowed Supertech Ltd to construct the area where no building was constructed as per the original plan. The builders paid 20 crores for the demolition. As per the report, the company has faced a huge loss of around 500 crore rupees. This includes land, construction and interest costs. A team of Edifice Engineering and South Africa’s Jet Demolitions – the two firms that undertook the challenging task – Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) and the Noida authority began a structural audit of the neighboring buildings.

The collapse of the Twin Towers is the biggest disaster ever seen in the country. Journalist Nikhil Choudhary shared a drone shot on Twitter of the building collapsing, capturing a cloud of dust that obscured the structure’s final moments that the Supreme Court had ordered. The floors of the twin towers collapsed on each other as thousands of people watched from vantage points outside the ‘exclusion zone’ in Noida’s Sector-93A on the outskirts of New Delhi.
