NPCC Calls for Transparency in SIR, Warns Against Exclusion of Genuine Voters

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has raised concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging irregularities in the exercise and calling for measures to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded from the electoral process.

The party organised a meeting under its nationwide campaign, “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao”, at District Bhavan in Tuensang, bringing together Congress workers and office bearers from Tuensang, Noklak and Longleng districts.

The meeting was attended by AICC observer Puran Chand Padhi, NPCC working president Apok Jamir, NPCC vice-president W. Akum, NPCC Media and Publicity Committee chairman Andrew Humtsoe, and Social Media and Digital Platform chairman Kumjimong. The leaders addressed the gathering on the ongoing electoral roll revision and the importance of protecting the democratic rights of eligible voters.

Addressing the meeting, Apok Jamir said the “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao” campaign was being conducted across the country to highlight concerns over alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision process. He said the visit of AICC observer Puran Chand Padhi to Nagaland was part of the party’s initiative to create awareness and examine issues related to the SIR exercise.

Claiming that large-scale deletion of voter names had taken place in certain areas, Jamir urged Congress workers to carefully examine electoral rolls in their respective constituencies. He asked party members to remain vigilant and take necessary steps to ensure that genuine voters were not excluded from the revised lists.

He also thanked Congress workers from Noklak and Longleng districts for attending the meeting and extending their support to the campaign.

In his address, Puran Chand Padhi expressed concern over the functioning of the SIR exercise, alleging that the process had become increasingly centralised. He said Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who earlier had greater authority at the grassroots level, now had limited decision-making powers.

Padhi further alleged that the revision exercise was being used to remove the names of voters who did not support the BJP. He raised questions over the transparency and impartiality of the process and called for greater vigilance to protect the voting rights of citizens.

Emphasising the importance of voting in a democratic system, Padhi said the right to.
