Arunachal Pradesh wushu player Nyeman Wangsu is set to represent India in the women’s Changquan final at the 20th Asian Games in Japan on Monday, September 21, with a medal at stake.
Wangsu will compete in the final at 5:30 am IST at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall in Japan, according to the official event schedule.
Hailing from Kanubari in Longding district, Wangsu has secured her place in the Indian contingent for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Her qualification is a significant milestone for Arunachal Pradesh, as she becomes the first wushu player from the state to qualify for the Asian Games for a second time.
Wangsu had also been selected for the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. However, she could not participate in the event due to issues related to the stapled visa. She continued her training and competitive career after the setback and eventually earned another opportunity to represent India at the continental sporting event.
Her participation in the Changquan final is the result of years of training and competition in the sport. The final also gives her an opportunity to compete for a medal on one of Asia’s biggest sporting platforms.
The development has drawn attention in Arunachal Pradesh and across the Northeast, where wushu has emerged as one of the region’s prominent sporting disciplines.
