Orange Alert for Kerala’s Idukki.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Friday, said that the low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea may concentrate into a depression over the next 24 hours and is likely to intensify even further. Further, the Met department also issued an orange alert for Idukki district in Kerala. The district is likely to receive isolated spells of ‘heavy to very heavy rains’ over May 29 and 30, an IMD update said on Friday.

The southern state is already expected to receive first spells of monsoon on June 1. Most of the other districts in Kerala are expected to receive low, medium and heavy rainfall over the next few days.
IMD warned that a low pressure area is likely to form over southeast and adjoining eastcentral parts of the Arabian Sea by Sunday. It is likely to concentrate into a depression in the subsequent 72 hours.

On the other hand, the other low pressure area in the Arabian Sea, which lies further to the west, has become well-marked.

It is likely to concentrate into a depression by Saturday evening. Intensifying, it is expected to move towards the Oman and Yemen coasts in the subsequent 48 hours.
