Over 300 farmers trained in sustainable agriculture at Meghalaya workshop

Over 300 farmers in Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills have embraced organic and integrated farming techniques through a specialized training workshop aimed at improving agricultural productivity and sustainability. Organized by Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College (DDUCC) and the Skill Development Centre, Wahiajer, under North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), the workshop provided farmers with practical demonstrations and interactive sessions that blended traditional methods with modern farming advancements.

Experts led hands-on training, focusing on chemical-free farming, integrated farming systems, and environmental conservation. Farmers were introduced to innovative methods that could help them achieve economic independence and long-term sustainability. Following the workshop, the Golden Jubilee Community Hall, donated by the Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturers’ Association (JHCMA), was inaugurated. The hall will serve as a center for community activities, educational programs, and skill development initiatives.

Speaking at the event, NEHU Vice-Chancellor PS Shukla (virtually) and JHCMA President RK Pareek emphasized the importance of organic farming in national development. They commended DDUCC for its efforts in empowering farmers and reaffirmed support for initiatives that uplift the local farming community.
