Arunachal Pradesh is set to host the 2026 Asian Rafting Championships from October 5 to 9 in Boleng, Siang district, with the state government stepping up preparations for the international event that is expected to promote adventure sports and tourism. Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday reviewed the preparations for the championship during a meeting with Asian Rafting Council President Shaukat Sikand and Arunachal Pradesh Water Sports Association President Nino Dai. Sports Minister Ojing Tasing was also present during the review meeting.
The championship is expected to bring together participants and officials from several Asian countries, offering Arunachal Pradesh an opportunity to showcase its natural landscapes, river systems and growing potential as a destination for adventure tourism. During the meeting, Khandu said the event would highlight the state’s spectacular rivers, warm hospitality and ability to host international sporting events. He noted that the championship would help position Arunachal Pradesh as a leading destination for water sports and adventure tourism.
The Chief Minister also expressed confidence that the event would contribute to the state’s tourism sector while creating new opportunities for local communities and businesses. He said hosting an international championship of this scale would strengthen Arunachal Pradesh’s profile on the global adventure sports map and encourage greater interest in the state’s outdoor tourism potential. The 2026 Asian Rafting Championships will be held from October 5 to 9 in Boleng, with the state government and sports authorities working together to ensure successful organisation of the event.
