Indian families often do not track the cumulative cost of medicines taken for chronic conditions despite recurring monthly expenses, according to data shared by affordable chronic medications platform PlatinumRx.
The company said a household spending ₹5,000 a month on medicines for conditions such as diabetes or hypertension could spend about ₹60,000 annually. PlatinumRx said its model of sourcing the same salt compositions directly from GMP-certified manufacturers and eliminating distributor and stockist markups can reduce medicine costs by up to 60%, potentially bringing a ₹5,000 monthly bill down to around ₹2,000.
“Most families don’t realise how much a chronic condition costs them until they actually add up a year of it,” said Ashutosh Pandey, co-founder, PlatinumRx. He said the platform was built to make long-term medicine costs more transparent and manageable.
According to the company, PlatinumRx has helped more than 10 lakh users save a combined ₹137 crore. Repeat orders account for 70% of its monthly volume, while the platform currently delivers across 19,000 PIN codes through nine warehouses, with six additional warehouses under development.
Founded in 2023 by IIT and IIM alumni Ashutosh Pandey and Piyush Kumar, PlatinumRx works directly with pharmaceutical manufacturers. The company advised patients to consult doctors before switching prescribed brands.
