PM Modi launches Rs 50,000 crore ‘Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan’

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan, the Rs 50,000 crore mega scheme to provide jobs to the migrant workers who returned to their respective villages during the coronavirus-mandated lockdown.

The mega job scheme will roll out 116 districts across the country, in which the maximum number of migrant workers have returned. Under the Garib Kalyan Rojgaar Yojana, 25 other existing schemes were brought together to provide livelihood for migrant workers for 125 days and create assets for these districts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while unveiling the mega job scheme from Khagaria district in Bihar via video conferencing said that the scheme is inspired by the migrants and termed the day as historic.

“Today is a historic day, a scheme for the welfare and for the livelihood of the poor has been started. It is dedicated to the workers, to the youths and women living in villages. The majority of these include those who have returned to their villages during the lockdown, they want to develop their village through their efforts and skill,” Modi said at the launch of the event.
