Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Arunachal Pradesh’s first greenfield airport “Donyi Polo Airport” at Holangi, Itanagar on November 19, 2022. The state will now have three operational airports with Donyi Polo Airport and will also be responsible for the 16th airport. In the North East region. Built at a cost of over Rs 640 crore and spread over an area of ​​over 690 acres, the airport is suitable for all weather day operations. The airport is named Doni Polo as a reflection of the rich culture and heritage of Arunachal Pradesh with ‘Donyi’ meaning sun and ‘Polo’ meaning moon.

The airport at Hollongi, near the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, will connect the border state with other Indian cities as well as commercial flights through helicopter services to other parts of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Modi government has placed special emphasis on improving connectivity to and from the region. As of 2014, there were nine operational airports in NE. Since then, thanks to the construction of seven more operational airports, air raft in the Northeast has grown by 113% — from 852 per week in 2014 to 1,817 per week in 2022, a government statement said.
