PM To Inaugurate Maruti Suzuki’s Electric Car

Maruti Suzuki is set to begin production of its first born-electric SUV, the e-Vitara, at Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat starting today. The event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Japanese Ambassador Keiichi Ono. The e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki’s debut electric vehicle in India, will be manufactured for both domestic use and export to over 100 countries.

Alongside the SUV’s production launch, PM Modi will also inaugurate the manufacturing of lithium-ion battery cells and electrodes for strong hybrid vehicles at the TDSG facility in Hansalpur—a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki. Although earlier delayed due to rare earth material shortages, Maruti Suzuki is aiming to produce 67,000 e-Vitaras annually. The company has already ramped up production capacity to support around 59,000 units between October 2025 and March 2026, with a daily output of up to 440 vehicles.

The e-Vitara, built on the 40PL EV platform co-developed with Toyota, debuted globally in Europe and was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. It will offer 49kWh and 61kWh battery options, with AWD available in the larger variant. Pricing is expected to start around ₹20 lakh.
