Police arrest 5 suspected terrorists for planning bomb blasts in Karnataka

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) today arrested five suspected terrorists in Bengaluru for allegedly planning terror attacks in the Karnataka capital.

Police are looking for another suspect, Junaid, of Bangalore’s RT Nagar area, whose current whereabouts are unknown, but according to police, the man is based abroad and is believed to be the mastermind behind the supply of arms and explosives to the five arrested.

The five in custody — Suhail, Omar, Zahid, Mudasir and Faisal — all from Bengaluru and aged between 25 and 35, were earlier arrested in 2017 and spent 18 months in jail in a murder case before being released in 2019.

CCB also seized explosive materials from the suspects. They also had guns and knives.

During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they were in touch with terror accused T Nazeer, who is currently lodged in Bengaluru Central Jail (Parapanna Agrahara).

The senior police officer added that Bengaluru police is coordinating with central agencies to trace Junaid.
