West Agartala police have busted a notorious gang involved in thefts and snatching incidents, primarily targeting elderly women in the city. The operation was carried out near the border area close to Bangladesh, under the jurisdiction of West Agartala police station. Police arrested four accused, identified as Shakil Mia, Mintu Rudra Pal, Juton Mia, and Amar Das. During the operation, constable Deepak Deb sustained injuries while bravely apprehending two of the suspects.
“Based on interrogation, we arrested two more suspects, bringing the total to four. The gang was active in theft, snatching, and other property-related crimes. They had stolen motorcycles and gold ornaments, mainly targeting elderly women,” said Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee.
Police recovered three stolen motorcycles and a quantity of gold jewellery from the arrested individuals. All four have been remanded to custody for further questioning, as investigators hope to uncover more details about their criminal network.
