Pradyot Debbarma Says TIPRA Motha Eyes Tribal CM for Tripura in 2028

Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, leader of the TIPRA Motha Party (TMP), stated that the results of the impending elections for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will be pivotal in determining whether a tribal chief minister will emerge from the 2028 Assembly elections. While the election schedule has not been released, the current council’s term will conclude on April 20. Speaking at a rally in Killa, Debbarma emphasized that the council’s election results could significantly impact the future leadership of Tripura. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Chief Minister Manik Saha of entering into a “secret deal,” claiming Saha lacks the strength to defend the rights of indigenous communities. Additionally, Debbarma alleged that the BJP intends to undermine tribal institutions and has failed to release funds designated for village committees, hindering development in tribal regions. He noted that elections for these committees have been delayed for years. Debbarma warned that the BJP would likely invest heavily in the tribal council elections but called on voters to resist monetary influence and support TMP to safeguard the rights and future of Tripura’s indigenous populations.
