Tipra Motha Party (TMP) chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has expressed strong confidence that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will soon bring a lasting solution to the long-standing Tiprasa issue. Speaking at a party event held at Rabindra Bhavan on Sunday, Debbarma said he holds “immense respect” for Shah and trusts that the Centre remains committed to addressing the concerns of the indigenous Tiprasa community through dialogue and cooperation. He reminded that a tripartite agreement between the TMP, the Centre, and the Tripura government was signed in March 2024 in New Delhi in Shah’s presence to ensure the development of Tiprasa people.
Clarifying political speculation, Debbarma said the TMP-BJP alliance was finalised in New Delhi and not at the state level, cautioning against “baseless rumours.” Taking a swipe at the BJP, he mocked its claim that thousands of indigenous voters were joining the party, saying, “At this rate, the Tiprasa population will reach 1.5 crore in four months.” Debbarma also criticised the delay in TTAADC village committee elections, stating that tribal areas have been deprived of democratic polls for nearly a decade.
He further expressed disappointment over Rajmata Bhibu Kumari Devi not being invited to the Maa Tripureswari Temple inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22.
