Push for Domestic Gas Pipeline Connectivity in Aizawl: Chief Minister

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced ongoing efforts to establish domestic gas pipeline connections in Aizawl during the launch of the Oil and Gas Conservation Awareness Campaign, Saksham 2025–26, organized by Indian Oil Corporation Limited. The pipeline construction is reportedly progressing from Tripura. Emphasizing government initiatives for the oil and gas sector, Lalduhoma highlighted enhanced exploration activities and the drive to utilize the state’s green energy potential in support of sustainable development. B. Lalchhanzova, the Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, also stressed the government’s efforts to ensure an uninterrupted gas supply, noting upgrades at the Mualkhang Gas Bottling Plant and plans for an Oil Depot to mitigate past supply disruptions. He emphasized the vital role of distributors in public service. The campaign, themed “Conserve Oil, Go Green,” will include various awareness activities related to oil and gas conservation. Data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell indicates that Mizoram’s oil use in 2024–25 included 119.20 thousand metric tonnes of diesel, 58.83 thousand metric tonnes of petrol, and 34.6 thousand metric tonnes of LPG. Currently, the state houses 60 LPG distributors and 115 petrol pumps, with approximately 422,661 registered vehicles.
