Cutting quick her remain in New Delhi by way of a day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee again from the national capital on Sunday night to take stock of the scenario in the state in the wake of horrific climate prediction via the Meteorological Department.
A “deep depression” due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal is likely to succeed West Bengal this week which may even intensify into a cyclone-like situation, the climate department said.
Sources in the Jati Secretariat said the chief minister decided to return to the state after hearing about the possibility of “depression” while consulting officials of the disaster management department.
On Monday, Banerjee held a conference with senior officials of the state administration in Kolkata and took stock of preparations to deal with the emerging situation. She said preparations should be made to evacuate people from the Sundarbans and other potentially affected areas even if the “depression” did not lead to a situation like Amphan or Yas now.
All cyclone centers will be equipped and disaster rescue forces will be ready to deal with any eventuality, she added.
