Alongside the renaming of Governors’ residences throughout India, Tripura’s Raj Bhavan will officially be renamed Lok Bhavan as of December 1, following a directive from the Union Home Ministry. This change, initiated by Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu after discussions with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, reflects a movement to eliminate colonial-era terms from official usage, symbolizing greater accessibility and transparency. The term “Raj Bhavan,” which connoted a king’s domain, will be replaced to emphasize ownership by the people in a democratic system. In addition to the name change, designated visiting hours will be established for the public to interact with officials. Lok Bhavan will adopt the concept of Janta Darbar, similar to that held at Chief Ministers’ residences, to address citizen grievances. All official references to Raj Bhavan will transition to Lok Bhavan starting December 1, 2025, with detailed implementation guidelines concerning signage, documentation, and ceremonial protocols to be provided later.
