Rallies and awareness held under ‘national road safety month’

On the occasion of “national road safety month”, various activities were conducted across the state. 

Mokokchung: A walkathon was organised by District Road Safety Committee, Mokokchung on February 15, from Sewak Gate to Imlong Place Mokokchung where Personnel of DEF Mokokchung, 23 Assam Rifles, NCC Cadets and members of Run Mokokchung participated. 

While addressing the participants at Imlong Place, superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, Vishal said that in India, thousands of people died every year in road accidents.

In this, he added that road safety should be made a social movement and urged the participants to make a pledge to educate people around them on road safety. The walkathon was flagged off at Sewak Gate by Commandant 23 Assam Rifles, Mokokchung, Raj Kumar.

Mon: Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Mon in collaboration with District Administration and Transport Department held an “awareness scooty rally” in Mon on February 15. The rally was flagged off from NST Junction Mon by ADC, Mon HQ, Rahul Mali. 

According to DIPR report, coinciding with Transport Department’s “road safety month”, the rally witnessed messages and slogans in placards about various road safety measures.

Meanwhile, a slogan for the rally, “yes to life, no to substance abuse” was also conducted. It was aimed at creating awareness among the masses about negative impacts of substance abuse. The rally also distributed pamphlets with helpline number 8415967564 to address persons struggling with addiction or substance abuse. 

Altogether, 20 female riders were escorted by District Administration. 

Phek: During the ongoing “road safety advocacy programme” organised by Charity Welfare Society, Khezhakeno, Phek, society members, volunteers along with traffic personnel distributed pamphlets on February 10 at Pfutsero town and  February 15 at Meluri town. The programme was monitored by DTO staff Phek.
