Remembering the Legend: Byatikram Group’s Tribute to S.D. Burman’s Enduring Legacy

Byatikram Group showcased the power of cultural entrepreneurship at the second edition of “Remembering the Maestro – S.D. Burman” held at U Soso Tham Auditorium. The event, organized in collaboration with The Times of India and Rabindranath Tagore Club Laban, Shillong, with support from the Government of Tripura, Meghalaya’s Department of Arts and Culture, HDFC Bank, The Illumis Clinic, NERIM, and NEDFi, highlighted the growing intersection of heritage, talent, and economic opportunity in the Northeast.

The evening opened with Meghalaya Governor Shri Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar and a 69-artist medley symbolizing Burman’s 69-year life, performed by the Bahaar Group. Felicitations for dignitaries from legal, corporate, and cultural sectors emphasized the event’s cross-community engagement and strategic value in promoting local arts as a marketable asset.

Shillong musician Rudy Wallang received the “S.D. Burman Byatikram Lifetime Achievement Award,” underscoring the potential for regional talent recognition to drive both cultural pride and economic incentives. Governor Vijayashankar suggested establishing an S.D. Burman Academy of Music, reflecting long-term investment in arts education and talent development.

Performances by Jayati Bhattacharjee, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Binita Devi, Sur Manjari, and other artists, along with dance and drama acts, captivated audiences, highlighting strong demand for curated cultural experiences.Byatikram Group’s initiative demonstrates how celebrating heritage can create meaningful economic, educational, and social impact in the region.
