Namsai Police in Arunachal Pradesh arrested four persons, including a repeat offender previously booked in multiple narcotics cases, during an anti-drug operation and seized suspected heroin, cash believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking and other incriminating materials. The operation was carried out on August 3 at around 6.45 pm after police received specific information about alleged drug peddling near the Circuit House in Namsai. Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police and SDPO Namsai Kengo Dirchi conducted a raid with the support of the All Namsai Area Youth Association (ANAYA). The arrested persons have been identified as Chow Nakalan Mein (40), a resident of Jenglai under Piyong Circle, Gopal Chetry (40) of Piyong Circle, Suresh Gour (37) of Piyong Adivasi Village and Janu Urang (28), also from Piyong Adivasi Village.
Police said Chow Nakalan Mein is a habitual drug peddler who had earlier been arrested on three occasions under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.After following the mandatory legal procedures under the NDPS Act, 1985, the police recovered 60 grams (gross) and 9 grams (net) of suspected heroin, ₹61,440 suspected to be proceeds of drug trafficking, 20 disposable syringes, two lighters and other articles believed to be connected to the alleged offence. The seized materials were taken into custody in the presence of independent witnesses after a seizure memo was prepared. All four accused were formally arrested, and a case has been registered under Sections 21(b), 27A and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Police said the investigation is now focused on identifying the source of the suspected contraband, tracing the financial trail linked to the alleged drug trafficking activities and identifying other people who may be connected to the network.The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley.Reiterating its commitment to tackling drug trafficking, Namsai Police appealed to the public to share credible information about narcotics-related activities. The police assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
