The Tripura government has appointed retired senior IAS officer Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty (PK Chakraborty) as the State Election Commissioner, a key administrative move ahead of the forthcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections.
According to an official notification, the appointment has taken immediate effect. Chakraborty succeeds retired IAS officer and former Tripura Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar, who had been serving as the State Election Commissioner since November 16, 2025.
Before taking up his new assignment, Chakraborty was serving as Secretary to Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha. During his administrative career, he held several important positions in the Tripura government and is regarded as an experienced civil servant.
As State Election Commissioner, Chakraborty will lead the State Election Commission at a crucial time, with preparations expected to begin for the TTAADC Village Committee elections. The commission will be responsible for conducting the polls, including announcing the election schedule, preparing and updating electoral rolls, enforcing the Model Code of Conduct and ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.
Following his appointment, the state government has reassigned several administrative responsibilities. IAS officer Kiran Gitte has been given the additional charge of Secretary to the Chief Minister and will also head the Information and Cultural Affairs Department. Tapas Ray, IAS, has been entrusted with the Education (Youth Affairs and Sports) Department, while the General Administration (Confidential and Cabinet) Department will continue to remain under the charge of Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha.
