Revised Tourism Rules in Bhutan: A Balance Between Economy and Environment

The Bhutanese government has recently introduced a new tourism policy aimed at balancing environmental protection with economic growth. Under the new regulations, Bhutan will continue its “high-value, low-impact” tourism approach to minimize negative effects on the country’s culture and environment.

Additionally, measures will be taken to ensure the participation and benefits of local communities in the tourism sector. The government expects that this policy will increase the tourism sector’s contribution to the GDP and enhance local livelihoods.

However, some tourism experts believe that the new policy might make travel to Bhutan more expensive, potentially leading to a decline in tourist numbers. They suggest that careful implementation is needed to maintain Bhutan’s appeal to international visitors while ensuring sustainability.
