Safety fans installed in Kota hostels to curb suicide

An unusual solution to combat the rising number of suicides in Kota, Rajasthan entrance exam coaching hub, is being ridiculed by social media users, who point out that mental health, and not changing fans, should be the focus of the administration. News agency ANI reported that spring-load fans are being installed in all hostels and paying guest (PG) accommodations in Kota to reduce student suicides.

So far 20 students have committed suicide in Kota this year.

In the most recent incident, an 18-year-old student was found hanging in a rented house in the city on Tuesday night.

This is the fourth student suicide in Kota this month. Three other coaching students, including two IIT-JEE candidates and a NEET-UG aspirant, died earlier this month.

Last year, at least 15 student suicides took place in coaching hubs.
The Kota administration has expressed concern over the rising number of student suicides in the district. Following the guidelines issued by the High Court regarding the increasing number of deaths, the district administration called for a psychological evaluation of Kota students and necessary counseling.
