Scheffler drifts to 3-shot lead at Hero World Challenge, Woods excited about progress

Scottie Scheffler secured the Tiger Trophy after two consecutive close calls in the Hero World Challenge, securing his spot in the third round. It was a brilliant 7-under 65 round that had two eagles and four birdies but ended with a bogey. Scheffler is currently 16-under and three strokes ahead of Matt Fitzpatrick, who has struggled with a single par in his last eight holes. Justin Thomas, co-leader of the overnight round, was tied fourth with Tony Finau, Jason Day, and Colling Morikawa, all tied for fourth, with the four tied for 10th place.

Tiger Woods expressed excitement about his recent progress, stating that with his third 71, he was even on 216 and tied 16th with Viktor Hovland, who went under par for the first time this week. Even as Scheffler was sprinting ahead, Woods overcame a bogey-bogey start for a 1-under 71. He declared, “I still have the game. It’s whether or not the body can do it. I’m very pleasantly surprised at how I’ve recovered every day. My activations in the gym have been good.”
