The closest approach of Comet 3I/ATLAS, the third interstellar object discovered passing through our solar system (following 'Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov). The comet is currently roughly 274 million kilometers away—nearly double the distance between Earth and the Sun. NASA’s Hubble and James Webb telescopes have been observing the visitor since its discovery in July, with scientists noting its unique chemical composition which differs significantly from comets originating in our own Oort Cloud.
