Guwahati-based senior hb journalist Trideep Lahkar has received an award for ‘Excellence in Journalistic Reporting on Smuggling and Counterfeiting Issues’ from the leading industry body Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). The award was given by Hon’ble Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Judge of Supreme Court of India on Friday (23rd September 2022) during the Valedictory Session of the two-day 8th MASCRADE 2022 event, held at Hotel Shangri-La Eros in New Delhi. He received the award for his detailed and in-depth writings on the subject over the last one year for India’s largest news agency Press Trust of India (PTI).

Mr Lahkar, currently working as the Chief Correspondent of PTI’s Assam unit, wrote extensively on counterfeiting and smuggling of drugs, currency, precious metals like gold and other contraband items along with legal actions against the criminals. He also reported several studies and surveys on the subject that highlighted the gravity of the social menace in India, especially the North East that shares international border with several countries. According to FICCI, Mr Lahkar was recognised and awarded for supporting the industry chamber’s “objective in generating awareness amongst the consumers, industry, policy makers and law enforcement officials to fight against the hazards of smuggling and counterfeiting”.

Commenting on the award, Mr Lahkar said: “It is really satisfying to get recognised for my work. I have always tried to highlight the issues, which affect the society and its people. I am thankful to the FICCI for this. I am also sincerely grateful to all my colleagues and seniors for their constant guidance and encouragement to write on the issues that matter most.”

The award is a national-level recognition to Mr Lahkar for his ‘distinguished investigation’.
