The flood situation in Assam remains critical, with seven additional deaths reported on Tuesday, raising the total to 92 this year due to floods, landslides, and storms. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the number of affected people has decreased to 1.77 million, but the crisis persists. The latest fatalities occurred in the Cachar (2), Dhubri, Dhemaji, South Salmara, Nagaon, and Sivasagar districts. Of the total deaths, 79 were caused by floods, with landslides and storms responsible for the remainder.
Currently, 1,717,599 people across 26 districts are affected, down from 1,880,700 people in 27 districts last Friday. The submerged cropland has reduced to 38,870.3 hectares from 49,014.06 hectares on Monday. Dhubri remains the worst-hit district with 354,045 people affected, followed by Cachar (181,545), Sivasagar (136,547), Barpeta (116,074), and Golaghat (109,475). Relief operations are ongoing, with 48,021 people housed in 507 relief camps and 104,665 receiving aid.
Kaziranga National Park has been severely impacted, with 159 animals dying from drowning or during treatment, and 133 animals rescued. The flood has affected 1,366,829 animals, and 20 animals were washed away. The disaster has damaged 94 roads, three bridges, 26 houses, and six embankments. The Brahmaputra River is still above the danger level at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati, and Dhubri. Other rivers exceeding danger marks include Burhi Dihing at Chenimari (Dibrugarh), Dikhou at Sivasagar, Disang at Nanglamuraghat (Sivasagar), Kopili at Dharamtul (Nagaon), and Kushiara at Karimganj.
